I, as a main iBETA "Realism Patch" HEX editor, can assure you that we
didn't change the performance of missiles in game yet.
The only thing we did:
- adjusted the armour of all vehicles
- adjusted the damage/blast values for weapons
Also, please remember that this 1st iBETA "Realism Patch" is work in
progress and that many many things remain to be done.
BTW, we have one excellent man aboard our team. He dechipered the
performance files for missiles (the ".dat" files) and in next patch we
shall include those.
The breakthrough with that is really something special - no more 60 deg
off boresight lock for AIM-9P for example!
If you attempt launch close to 40 off boresight, the missile will most
likely miss, since it may not have the energy to perform such maneuvers
and complete the intercept, and the missile may gimble out during the
launch transient.
Stay tuned for more good news... F4 isn't dead...
P.S.
As you can read in credits section of "ReadMe.doc" that accompanies the
iBETA "Realism Patch" many fine people contributed to it. This means
that patch is combined work of several man of whom some are not iBETA
members (like Jeffery "Rhino" Babineau of 209th Deltahawks). We should
also not forget the true HEX pioneers who first understood the F4 data
files and made this all happen...

Before you buy.
What about AI pilots? Can they understand the new limitations of the
weapons as you tweak the values?

Even if I haven't tried your patch yet I just wanted to say thanks
for your groups dedication! As I said before I'm very disappointed
that the F4 team was kicked by Hasbro and that F4 was left with
hundreds of dreadfull bugs left!
Do you remember all the sweet talk made by Hasbro/MPS about
dedication to fix it, add-ons, server module and so on when
it was released? I'm not saying that the F4 team didn't do a
good job with the patches but it's still unfinished in my opinion.
I will eventually reload F4 someday and see how it has progressed
since 1.08 by your teams (and others) hard work, thanks again!

Hope you are right but can you actually fix the bugs still
in the code (all of you will be heroes if you can <G>)?
Oh well back to "quality out of the box sims" like Longbow 2
and F/A-18 ;-).

I'm not sure what bugs you are referring to, but I can't think of any that
happen to me during gameplay. I repeat, there are no 'bugs' in the game
that I ever even notice. I've been playing it probably 4 or 5 of 7 days a
week lately, and I still can't get enough. I'm in nearing the end of Day 4
in a Rolling Thunder campaign and having a blast. Now that I think about
it, I haven't experienced a crash or a black screen (I have been running
mprtest.exe before I start F4) in what seems like months. I remember how
much I played EF2000, Longbow and LB2, and TAW and they couldn't hold a
candle to F4 in hardly any fashion (IMO of course :) Btw, I'm using the
1.08i2 patch(es) and also the iBeta realism patch right now. I highly
recommend giving it another chance... I know that I felt a bit like you did
so much so that I didn't even buy F4 until after the 1.07 patch. Even then
I realized how much I had been missing. Either way... enjoy.

Could someone give me a quick update on what has happened at Hasbro/MPS in
regards to the team who is supposedly responsible for this game?
Thanks!

I'm glad you are enjoying it! Regarding the bugs it's common knowledge
that there are many left and my point is that F4 1.00 was released in
a _VERY_ bad shape. The patches from 1.00 -> 1.08 fixed lots of them
but many are still there and none of the "sales pitch" add-ons (like
server module, F-18) was delivered! IMHO Hasbro let us down by pulling
the plug for the F4 team.
Since we are left with what we have I _GREATLY_ appreciate the efforts
made by the iBeta team and a lot of other people! I will eventually
reload F4 on my hard drive and see how it progressed.
Best regards,

So you are saying that most of the problems/bugs are solved with
the 1.08i2 and the realism patch? Don't get me wrong I really
would love to like F4 as much as you do. F4 sets new standards in
many ways (especially the campaign!) but to many problems and
need for special HW/SW/DX you name it tweaks to have it run got
me to wipe it (1.08) off my hard drive.
I don't use LGB's often (i prefer to lob iron bombs anyway, and I have no
problem hitting the target) so I don't get that error, but when I do use
LGB's I only get that crash maybe 1 in 20 missions, and the texel alignment
thing was a piece of cake once I downloaded a better set of drivers for my
tnt2U.
If I REALLY wanted to use the LGB's I would buy a $10 HDD caddy, plug in a
spare HDD and create a fresh install of 98SE with DX6.1 and set my drivers
up and install F4 there. Eventually as technology progresses I will probably
end up doing that, and turning the detail sliders all the way up.

Thanks for the info John! Looking forward to even further progress with F4

Wouldn't call this "fixes" rather workarounds ;-). Anyway, due
to dedicated peoples (like iBeta team _AND_ others) hard work I
will check out how F4 progressed the last couple of months. Once
again kudos to everyone involved and I guess it will only get
better from here if they continue their work.
I understand they can't do magic since they don't have the source
code but if they fix/enhance/tweak what they can it's great! The
multiplayer campaign and ground graphics in F4 is hard to beat for
any other combat jet simulator available today!
Be on the lookout for a fix that activates the Search-Radar/Awacs symbol on the
RWR.
Coming soon to a realism patch near you :-)

Looking forward to "retry" Falcon 4.0 when the next realism patch
is done. Keep up the good work!
