Got the TIE Fighter Demo. Two disks - 3.5Mbytes on HD. Turns out to be
a Dodge Neon commercial, then a nice demo of the game, except that I
can't really calibrate the joystick! Then, when you are exiting the
program, you get the commercial again! Ugh...

I'm having trouble calibrating my joystick in the TIE Fighter demo. Is
anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?

Simple Neon ad fix:

edit the "Tiedemo.bat" file so that the neon thingy
doesn't run. I just "rem"med it out. This does not affect game play. If you
want to view the ad, run "Neon.exe".

Andrew.

To avoid the ad just check out all the files in the directory. There
should be something like 'tiemiss.exe' in the tiedemo directory. If you
execute this file you are taken directly to the j-stick calibration, and
then the mission. To get out just hit Esc during the flight mission. I've
heard about calibration problems on some fast machines, but have not heard
the solution.

Even simpler Neon ad fix:

Type "Tiemiss". This will jump you to the joystick calibration screen
and then directly into the game. Hit escape to exit to DOS.

Even simpler is just running tiemiss.exe instead.

If you want to avoid the commercial altogether just run
tiemiss.exe instead of tiedemo.bat. This will dump you directly
into the joystick calibration, etc. But then again this means
you miss those opening cut-scenes (Force lightening cooooooll!)
plus those Neon commercials are the reason why you get this for
free so stop whining about it. After all they don't force you to
watch all of it if you're not interested. Rather nice of them
since they picked up the tab.

For the joystick calibration problem... oh well its the same
thing as if you try to recalibrate during a mission in X-Wing,
the only advice I can give is to practice there. The only
problem I have is with the top left corner part where it hard not
to double click, but with a little practice one can get the hang
of it. Just try to be very gentle tapping the button at that
point.

I've been playing this demo for a LONG time. I'm pretty sure the only
way to win is to dock with the prowler. What I want to know is this:

Ever notice that when you target on a ship that is getting beaten up
and press control it shows the ships weapons and its misson ect. ect. Now
watch it when it dies. All it's weapons disapear and new weapon appears at the
end of the weapon thing. Sort of like this:

________________________________________________________________________________Unknown|Unknown| | | | | | | Beam|
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any one know what that Beam thing means? I thought that maybe it can
dock with something. When you fly away from the battle and lower your lasers,
target on a dying ship, press control, wait for it to die, you get targeted on
yourself. If your lasers are down and not recharging then it will say beam
for your weapons. I I think that maybe a tractor beam could lock on you and
bring you in? From there I tried to dock with the prowler and I got in side
the hanger. But the prowler just kept moving and I got ejected out of the back!If any one knows how to end the mission or what the Beam thing means please
post or E-mail me.

Thanx in advance,
Michael Jeung

How exactly do you dock with the prowler? Where is the hangar? I've tried
moving into the black area on the front of the prowler, but I just crashed
into the thing. HELP!?!

Well, i don't know how to dock with the Prowler. I know how to go
inside it and get ejected from the rear. Try lowering your lasers all the way
then going straight in. If you did it right you should be flying through the
thing. Then you wait till you go out the engines. I'm pretty sure that the
beam thing has something to do with it ( My prev post ).
