One of the series creators (and the person who played the role)
Chris Jones has announced that the next Tex Murphy game will try to
use Kickstarter for funding

".... we hope to bring the next Tex Murphy game to an a much bigger,
dare I say, epic level - More actors, locations, broader stories and yes
- even meaningful, varied story paths. With these elements, we have a
better chance of expanding the audience and a better chance of
commercial success and continuation. All of this would allow us to make
a true Adventure game with Immersive 3D world, Full Motion Video, and
longer game play.

On May 15, we are going to launch a Kickstarter page to help raise
funding for the project........... "

That is something I would like to see - another Tex Murphy game. I played
the ones starting at "Under a killing moon, but liked "Pandora Directive"
the best by far. I always liked Chris Jones. His brother was quite good
also. I liked the characters on the street who had stores like the Pawn
shop guy and the diner guy and the other guy with the technical gadgets and
I liked Chelsea. And the hotel guy was quite funny too. It had a lot of
quite funny comedy parts in the game. I guess Chris and others thought of
using a Kickstarter page maybe after they saw the one from Tim Schaefer and
others who got a lot of money towards making a new game. I am surprised last
time I looked, at how much money they made. Its amazing. I hope Chris can do
the same and create a good game. They are asking for opinions about Tex
Murphy games, so we who liked those games should give them ideas about what
we liked in the past Tex Murphy games.
Thanks for the info and link Noman.

I guess people have different opinions on what game in a series they liked
best. I liked the acting and videos in PD, which made it more interactive
but with a story and puzzles you had to solve. It had more scope than UAKM
and better graphics and easier movement throughout the game. Just my
opinion. Many people liked UAKM the best. I thought Overseer was a
disappointment after having liked PD so much. I think I felt that way
because not all the previous actors were in Overseer which I liked in PD and
the story didn't keep my attention. I still have PD and UAKM discs but gave
away Overseer. Now they are all available on gog.com to download and many
other great games for a very reasonable price.

I haven't heard that, but it could be the case. I assumed that Chris Jones
was probably married long ago by now and had a few kids. He is not old, but
old enough to have been married for a while I would think -:>)

Tex Murphy kickstarter campaign started yesterday, and has done really.
Within a day, it's funded almost 40% of its $450,000 goal.

I backed the project with the $15 option.

Things are looking good for next year. Jane Jensen's adventure, Ron
Gilbert and Tim Schafer's adventure, Wasteland 2, Tex Murphy, a Space
Quest type game (potentially), Shadowrun all coming out in the same year
and with PC as lead platform. Good times.

That's good news Noman, especially Tex Murphy (Pandora detective) is one of
my faves. It would be nice if Jane Jensen made another GK game. I was a bit
disappointed with the demo and mixed opinions about Gray Matter. I hope I
will be more interested in her next game. I was never into Space quest type
game, and don't know much about Wasteland 2 yet. Didn't even know there was
a Wasteland 1. It would be nice to get a lot of new adventure games made and
even better if they came back into popularity like they used to be. We can
only hope. . Its amazing that almost 40% was made just in one day. Have to
dig into our wallets. It shows how us adventurers have missed our old type
adventure games. Thanks for information Noman.

They are working on two games now. The second game is through a regular
publisher. It's probably Gray Matter 2. She has said though that any
work on Gabriel Knight game becomes more probable, if these games
succeed. By the way, they got near $450k from kickstarter funding. Their
original goal was $300k. With the additional money, they will be adding
few more areas and few big multi-stage puzzles to Moebius.

Wasteland is a turn-based RPG. Space quest games are traditional
adventures with some timing-based puzzles. I'd think Space Quest 5 and 6
are very playable even today. The games are available at GoG and Amazon
among other resellers.

You are welcome. They have crossed the 50% mark now. They posted a new
video, which is a fictional video newsclip set in Tex Murphy universe.
It's very uh.. Tex Murphy'ish, mentioning events from both Overseer and
Under a Killing Moon.

I just noticed Aaron Conners (one of the main folks at Access Software,
responsible for Mean Streets, Countdown and the subsequent Tex Murphy
games) posted a video there mentioning the gameplay of this title. The
update page is at

Great news. I am not sure what happened yesterday, as it was at around
370-380k amount, with a steady $10-15k pledges coming every day. Then
suddenly they got $60-70k in just one day and crossed the $450k mark.
There is an update by Chris Jones on some of the big backers.

Now, if only SpaceVenture (from Space Quest folks) could reach the mark.
To any one here who loved the Space Quest games and would like a similar
adventure game by the same developers, and who hasn't pledged yet,
please take a look at
<http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/spaceventure/two-guys-spaceventure-by-the-creators-of-space-que>

They have released very rough (but playable) design prototypes on
crossing $100k, $200k and $300k milestones. At any pledge level, you'll
be able to try out these already available prototypes. The lowest pledge
of $15 will give you a DRM free PC version of the game, with
availability on Mac, Linux, iPad and Android tablets as well. As with
any other Kickstarter project, you will be charged at the end (four days
from now) and only if the project meets its funding target.

Here's an interesting website, with a tracker for Kickstarter
funding/pledges coming in. The link below is for Tex Murphy project.

I know. I only added my pledge yesterday (yes I am late to the party)
just as it tipped over $440k. When I checked back about 3 hours later,
it was funded! That was quick. There was some cheering. :)

Tex fans, there is a Q&A to read going on now -

I'm a bit on the fence with this one (but will probably contribute)
because I never played the SQ games back in the day so there is no
nostalgia factor. I do like the fact that it would get an Android
release though. I got ScummVM going on my tablet but have not had time
to transfer over any games yet. (Not sure if it supports midi music)

SpaceVenture is now only 13k short of its 500k goal with 22 hours to go.
It's now definitely getting funded. It covered a lot of ground in the
last four or five days.

Here's the tracking chart for the project.
