Having heard of this program many times from this group I decided to try
it out and downloaded it last night. I wanted to play an old arcade
game (Tempest) which really needs a trackball to replicate the original
arcade feeling.

But I can't get it to recognize my USB trackball. I know that USB was
not a protocol used back in the days of this game but is there a way to
make it see my USB mouse as a standard serial bus mouse?

I tried a few web forums and even though this question was asked, no
answer was produced.

Thanks

Don't have the answer to that Don. I've used Dosbox quite a few times for
older games. It's a good program. But I used PS mouse. Did you check at the
DOS box forum? Somebody there might know. http://www.dosbox.com/

Cool, a logitech cordless optical trackman is what I am using. When I
go into the game setup and I chose the mouse option it tells me that it
does not detect a mouse. Yet I can move the mouse cursor around within
the shell window just fine. So Dosbox itself is detecting it, but I
need it to translate the mouse signal to the game itself.

As soon as I get my PC unpacked from the move I will try that. Thanks

I use a wireless optical mouse connected to a USB port and it works
perfectly fine in DOSBox. I don't have to use any special tweaks as
DOSBox does everything automatically.
