Velvet Assassin -
Some commenters have really trashed this game, but it's actually quite good.
The combination of stealth action that bursts into frantic gunplay at times
is surprisingly attractive.
But you have to let go the expectation of "ghosting" every level, as is
usually possible in Thief or SC, as the levels are cramped, linear, and
often you are required to make a kill to proceed. In return, you receive
much tense pleasure avoiding and stalking and killing Nazis, in many varied
ways, I think 15 or 20, each with good animations.
Scenery and lighting are a pleasure to look at, the apocalyptic cutscenes
advance the story well. This is a decent stealth-action game, smaller in
scope but similar in mechanics and look to SC:CT, just released some 5 years
later: Which is probably the most telling reason for VA's mediocre
reception.
Bioshock 2
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Just started both of these, so can't say much, but B2 is pulling me in.
Good stuff.
