Anyone able to find ARMA II on the shelf anywhere?
I really don't want to order it or buy from STEAM, but it appears
neither Gamestop or Best Buy are stocking it.

There must be some mail order companies you can order it from?

It was more of an impulse purchase. If I have to order if from Amazon
or somewhere, there are other things I'd rather have.

Thanks,
Tim

Sorry to follow-up my own post, but the North American retail release
is July 7th. I thought it co-incided with the STEAM release.

Get it from Gamer's Gate instead of Steam. Gamer's Gate doesn't require
front end client like Steam and is same price.

Thanks, but anything where I can actually get a DVD and a box is what
I'm going for. I know its stupid, but there is a value to physical
media there hardcoded into me from being a gamer for 20+ years.

I have some games registered on STEAM, but I have not ever purchased
anything there. I'd be less inclined to support others that might not
be around in 2 years.

If you are a potential US retail-purchaser:-

www.gogamer.com will be shipping the import (Euro) version on July 6.

Best to get that version if you do not want future trouble with
patches, since some US distributors of import games have a nasty habit
of changing the file package for their pet copy-protection scheme or
other lame excuse, thus making it incompatible with any patches from
the developer and then never creating the appropriate patches after
the developer has patched the Euro (English) versions..

I am specifically thinking of the Aspyr distribution of Gothic 3 which
was totally unsupported by Aspyr and is incompatible with the latest
patches, including the major community patch V1.72. (However, the
unblemished Euro version 1.12 of Gothic 3 can now be found on all the
US Dreamcatcher compilations that include Gothic 3 and can readily be
patched up to V1.72)

With the above patching issues in mind, here in the US I now always
get the "import" version of any major Euro-originated title. And
surprise, surprise, Gogamer-com quite frequently advertises their
Euro-originated versions of such titles at a LOWER price than the US
equivalent.... Go figure that one....

It's not stupid, I'm with you. I prefer a physical box too... not
only that but the price on Steam for ARMA 2 is the same as buying it
on amazon.com. Same price but you can't give it to someone or sell it
or do anything with it when you're done with it. I'm not anti-Steam,
but that seems like a scam to me. Valve are cutting out the middle-
man, and production costs, but it's the same price. How does that
work?

If anybody, Valve is taking a cut out from the publisher and
development house and pocketting the profts or using it to run servers
for CS, L4D and TF2. Its probably why Stardock's doing its own
thing. I'm not crazy about Steam either, but I love digital
downloads. The box and manual just ends up being something that I
will end up throwing away in a few years. When the mod community from
ArmA comes over to ArmA2 it will never be a game that you are "done
with". A few years ago I stopped buying games that you can "beat" in
20 hours and never play again.

When your done with the campaign missions you can make more fairly easy with
the editor.
The ARMA editor is really easy to use for making basic single player
missions. I learned how to make missions with ARMA, and I tried the ARMA2
editor and it about the same. It only took about 10 minutes for me to make a
basic mission with a few enemy infantry groups and light armor patrolling a
town and my squads objective is to go in and capture the town.

You can make the units or objects show up random so it is different each
time you play.
If you place some AI units in a city or town and give them waypoints that
have a very large placement radius, then they will travel in a more random
path so every time you play they will be in a different spot.
You can also give large placement radius to objects that will be the mission
objectives, so that if your objective is to destroy an ammo truck, then each
time you play the mission, the truck will be in a different location and you
have to find it.
