yeah, it doesn't sound like it's anywhere near finished according to
this recent george broussard interview:

I now know it will be no earlier than Xmas 2000(like TF2) and possibly
later(like TF2).

You would think that if the game got released a time when there
wasn't much competition, that it would get even bigger sales.
Anyone remember the timing of Diablo and Starcraft. Both
missed the Christmas rush and got released at a time when there
wasn't much out there.

I'm guessing that we aren't going to see it till 2001.

The change of engine was an all time stupid idea. I am sure this guy
went the Dakitana school of game development.
Why is it taking so long?
Duke is at this point a PSX title. He has quite a following and no one
cares about net code. At this point I think he is on his 3 or 4th game
for playstation. No need to do any real work just design levels in the
build engine.
Believe it or not the PC is a huge pain for developers and the amount
of money making games is getting smaller. Take a look at Homeworld.
Wow what a game! I don't think it sold worth a crap. I hope this
changes. Right now the Psx's and the DC's rule the world because of
the almighty install base. 1 million PSX 2's sold the first day! How
can we compete?
Why waste time on PC gamer's?
The duke people have'nt worked on this game for over a year.
If they had stayed on track with the original plan they could have had
2 games out already. SOF spent what 18 months in development using the
q2 engine.
Then again we are on year 3 for Dakitana. I guess we know who's who's
bitch now right John? (sounds like a great ad....hmmmmm?)
All in all the big miss here is the online aspect. Stick that in PSX
and try and play it. Duke was funny and the game play helped introduce
many to the FPS Genere.
Duke had something so right and so wrong at the same time. This should
translate to the online play. The missed moment here is to create a
politically incorrect portal for gamers of all types.
Duke forever baby!!!!

Before you buy.
Perhaps you know something I don't but I have a hard time believing Duke is
a
pure PS2 title. The developers would have to toss a couple of years of work
down the drain in order to rewrite the code from pc to Playstation. Plus
Duke's core fan base
are pc gamers, most of who are adults. I think the delay has more to do
with
politics and infighting rather than favoring one platform over another. The
day
consoles (Can they ever make a game without save points?) overtake pcs is
the day I will buy one.
Now I know why the title is Duke Nukem Forever. That's because it's taking
forever
to finish!
I don't want the developers to tone Duke's attitude down. I am female and
instead
of being offended I really enjoyed the whole political incorrectness aspect
of the game.
Let's have more Duke talk!
And about DNF (Not did not finish;):Those who wait for a good thing does not
wait forever!Remember GP2 anybody?
Looking at the brainlessness/lack-of-depth in the FPS nowadays,I am willing
to wait awhile for a good game WITH a story!

I wish the DNF team had brought out two incrementally better releases
instead of trying to make this "the best game ever". The longer you wait,
the more momentum you lose. I don't think the PC gamers give a crap about
the Playstation titles.
Having said that, I loved Duke3D and will be one of the first in line at the
store when DNF comes out.
>Every software project that I've seen run this far over schedule has "bad

The problem isn't the game itself. If you count from the last engine
change, DNF has only been in development for two years. The problem
was that 3Drealms lost its head when it announced the game. Basically
they screwed around with a Quake map editor, got all excited and ran
to PC Gamer to start building hype. In the story they even set a
release date for spring 98 and they hadn't even a team devote to the
project yet. So they created this PR nightmare that refuses to go
away. Oh they tried to put the genie back in the bottle by saying they
never set a release date but its hard to do when your words are in
print.

You should consider buying Thief Gold, and Thief II when it comes out
next week. Tres gut!

The title is dead. 3Drealms went through several teams trying to get
this title off the ground but it never happened. They said that the
game was "this close" several times and blamed it on management. Not
sure what "this close" means.
3Drealms right now is working on two titles. DNF and Max Paynne. After
they're done, 3Drealms with decide what their next game will be. It
may be Prey. If it is, they are starting over from scratch.
In my personal opinion, I get the feeling that 3Drealms isn't going to
be developing engines. Prey about killed them and I doubt they will be
going down that road again soon.
