I just bought a new computer 1ghz PIII w/ GF2 Gts. One of the reasons I
got it was to play games. The first game I bought was Deus Ex. Here on my
brand new (what I thought was) top of the line computer, Deus Ex plays like
crap???
I understand now that the GF2 is not the card for the unreal engine. But
what I want to know is if a 1ghz PIII and GF2 can/will play other games
good. I sorta got my system to play all the new games I hope It can handle
them ok.....

thanx

You should be fine, with a couple caveats:

1. Get the D3D patch from the Eidos support site (sorry don't have the
address on me.)
2. 32-bit color is significantly slower than 16-bit.
3. Detail textures slow the game down significantly.

I know, when you get a new system there's a tendency to turn
everything on, saying, "I've got a kick-ass system now. It should be
able to handle anything!"

Also, it doesn't help that the opening scene of Deus Ex is among the
slowest in the game :)

Good luck

It's the game, not your system.

Other games will scream, trust me.

Yes. It will play the vast majority of other games like butter. You probably couldn't
have picked a worse game to judge the ability of your system by. Even other Unreal engine
games - UT, Rune, Wheel of Time - will run far, far better. Don't worry. :)

Naa its Deus Ex. On my p3 550, 128 megs of ram, and Geforce ddr with
all details turned low, lowest resolution, and the D3D patch it would
barely get above 20 fps. Everything else I play just screems,
including UT (somewhat) so its really that game.

No it's not. It's also the Unreal/NVIDIA problem, because Deus Ex runs
quite nice on my Celeron 400 with an old Voodoo Banshee!
