In trying to help a user on an i5 I administer who was having trouble
mapping a drive in Windows to his folder in the IFS (/home/username), I
found that the folder contained a virus-infected file. I suspect it
originated from the user's PC, and was uploaded along with some other
files he was legitimately uploading.

Does anyone have experience with any System i-specific tools that scan
the IFS for virus-bearing files? Any recommendations?

I scan the IFS using my existing Symantec Anti-Virus software.

The only solution is to periodically scan the IFS volume with anti-
virus software. Create a share at the root of the IFS and map to it
so you can see all the IFS folders and files and have a spare PC set
up just to scan that mapped drive on a regular basis. If you have
"outdated" systems laying around, this may be the perfect opportunity
to re-purpose one of those systems to combat this issue.

You can buy products just for the iSeries to do just this, but Norton,
CA, AVG et al can do the job just as well if not better without an
added expense.
