Especially if you own an older version of a TDS MultiMemory RAM card,
since these special beasts are likely to fry and also may damage the calc,
once the backup battery voltage has dropped below a certain level.

With most other memory cards, you may only lose the RAM contents.

And as always: The one who laughs in the end has a backup:-)

Also in old telephone answering machines of similar vintage
(before using flash memory, as now also the calculators)

How about a battery-free calculator -- not just solar powered,
but like those flashlights that you shake for a minute
before each use (remember "self winding" watches?)

I would like a self-winding memory card for my HP48GX
(and a self-programming card too, if anyone has one :)

The AECROM for the HP-41 comes (relatively) close to that:-)

You enter an expression into the ALPHA register,
the card will make a program from it.
Similar to the expression solver in the HP-17BII

Not entirely of topic sugestion:

I would like to have a wind-up-type-generator inside my calculator.
Imagine: you're on a deserted island your calculator's batteries are out
and you put in a key, wind up and the thing works.
You're able to use Heiko's Sonne program to tell your heading (of course)
and finaly you decide to stay to live on the island since all you need is
there:

a) beautifull tropical native girls (or boys... erm... if that's your
preference :-)
b) fruits and vegetables, birds (whatever you eat to keep you alive and
well)
c) the KEY :-)

My telephone answering machine uses tape.

This sounds vaguely similar to the "AER" key
on the Sharp OZ-707 Basic card (plug-in for "Wizard" PDAs).

Can it be upgraded to add voice recognition?
(by now, this should be standard for all
phone-based HP calc emulators)
