I tried to install Windows XP Pro (SP2) on my Compaq A900 notebook.
It's a Vista machine but I thought I'd try to install XP. The installer
couldn't find the hard drive. The machine uses a Western Digital serial
ATA drive. I didn't have any trouble installing XP on my desktop and it
uses serial ATA disks. Does anybody know what's going on? And is there
any way around this?

I hold to that HDD with Vist and buy a new one, swap the
dysks and the installation should start with no problem.
Then when you got fed up with XP you can swap it for Vista.

The problem is compaq presario lap tops come with an option in the
bios called Native SATA enhanced or Native SATA support try disabling
this option in the bios and XP should recognize your HDD, hope that
helps.
