I have a couple of issues with my used rx2600 ( purchased on ebay ):

A) I attempted to upgrade the rx2600 firmware to the latest 231C ( jan
2009 ) iso and the firmware program stated that MP must be at level
E.02.29 or higher. Currently, my MP firmware is at level E.2.23 so I
downloaded each of the older firmware ISOs and had a little success with
upgrades but was unable to update the MP firmware from E.02.23 to
E.02.26. I need my rx2600 MP firmware to be a minimum of E.02.26 to
upgrade again to MP E.02.29 or higher via rx2600 ISO cds. Once the MP
is at level E.02.29 or higher, I can then install the latest firmware
ISO for the rx2600.

B) According to the HP website, once again, I must telnet or use a
serial M-Cable to connect directly to the rx2600 MP. Doing so should
allow me to upgrade from E.02.23 to E.0.2.26. The problem is I have no
idea what the rx2600 telnet ip address is since it is a used machine.
What is the default telnet ip address? If it was changed by the
previous owner, how can I set it back to factory default?

C) Is a 25 pin serial M-cable actually needed? Can I used a 25 pin to 9
pin null modem cable instead in the M-cable port? Can I use the serial
9 pin port instead of the 25 pin port on the rx2600 to access the MP?
The M-cable seems expensive and I'd only need it to access the MP for
this upgrade ( probably wouldn't use it again ) since all the newer
rx2600 ISOS seem to upgrade from the cd.

D) When I finally (crossing fingers) manage to access to magical rx2600
MP, what must I do to upgrade to E.02.26? I downloaded the E.02.26 file
from HP, but I am not sure what to do with it? Do I FTP or use some
other method to perform the MP firmware upgrade? Once E.02.26 is copied
to the rx2600, how do I start the MP E.02.26 firmware install?

Thanks again,

Tony Rodriguez

Somewhere in the midst of all that, there are probably instructions to
reset the MP - helps clear-out memory fragmentation and whatnot for
the downloading.

Once connected to the MP, CM then LS will "Lan Show" that will include
any IP address the MP has. You can alter that with the LC or "Lan
Config" command.

Also, there is every chance that if configured with a static IP, the
MP will emit a "gratuitous ARP" when it initializes. If you happen to
connect the MP LAN port back-to-back with say a laptop running
sniffing software, you can see that ARP message and it will contain
the MP's IP address. If the MP is configured to get its IP via DHCP
you will see the DHCP request.

It would be best.

Probably. IRC the pinouts were arranged such that the Console whip on
the M/W cable (whatever it is called) were the "standard" tx, rx gnd
pins. The "remote" and "UPS" whips are the "other" pins.

No, that is connected to the (IIRC) BMC, which is not the MP. It is
what you would connect to for a console in the absence of an MP
installed in the rx2600 (the MP was an option on the rx2600, not
included standard like it is on the rx2660).

There should be instructions in or around the same place as whence you
got the MP firmware file. It has been ages since I've done one, but I
think that grabbing the bits via an FTP server was indeed one of the
methods. You *really* should find the instructions though :)

"when", sometimes "where"; always "how much." - Joubert
