I have been receiving this error too. I found a work around by
disabling Print Optimizations under Printing Preferences. I am
currently in the process of trying to update the printer driver to see
if that fixes the issue.
I finally had a chance to update to the latest printer driver and it
worked. No more PCL XL error. There was an issue with the windows
updates for XP,but hp fixed the issue with the latest driver update.
I'm currently having this problem at my firm which we have several HP
LJ 4240n. It seems like most of the times the first print out comes
out fine but if you print more than one copy you get the pcl xl error
message. All my printer drivers are up to date and both the client and
server end. Not sure what to do, but you did mention to run windows
update on the client pc or you are you referring to the server machine
or both? I will try that and report back.
I have this problem with a couple of LJ 2430.
I've used the PCL 6 drivers. No luck. I've installed the printers
locally with a Standard TCpiP-port. No luck.
I've used the LJ 4 Plus drivers (They always work!!!), no luck.
Used the HP Universal Drivers. No luck.
Now i've downgraded the drivers to PCL5e. I know this next week if
that works.
If it does. I will let you guys know.
Below are the error messages I normally get
PCL XL error
Subsystem: KERNEL
Error: IllegalOperatorSequence
Operator: EndChar
Position: 34
Also this error message:
PCL XL error
Warning: IllegalMediaSource
Can someone help me to resolve this issue?
