Problems with an HP TC4200 tablet touchscreen calibration

Can anyone offer me any advice?
I cannot get my screen calibrate properly.
It becomes less calibrated towards the left edge (landscape), and it
misses a vertical strip along the left hand edge altogether - (approx
8mm wide).
I assume this needs some sort of lower level calibration as the standard
'hit the crosses' just gives a bleep and doesn't take the setting.
Frustrating as I'm fairly sure the screen is OK.

If anyone was interested, the Wacom touchpad was u/s. Had to replace the
screen (hard to buy the touchpad separately)
