My memory is that the specifications are "0% to 90% (noncondensing)".
So the question is to protect things from the highest levels of
humidity, and not "high" humidity. I would expect that the worst
problem is if a sudden gust of warm, humid air reached cold hardware,
which might cause the hardware to be colder than the dewpoint of the
incoming air.

Is there a way you can build a largely air-tight container around the
hardware? E.g., a flimsy wooden frame with plastic sheeting tacked to
it. You can put the dehumidifier inside of that, which will reduce
its operation time greatly, and the dehumidifier will warm the air and
thus the hardware.
