Hello, I've recently acquired several old VAX systems on which I plan
to install OpenVMS 7.3 under the most fantastic hobbyist license. I
found a build of perl which will work. I found zip/unzip and many
other goodies. Does anyone have a web server of any sort running on
their hobbyist machine? I'd love to hear about it!

I believe that for a VAX OSU and WASD are your only options. Personally,
I have found WASD to be fantastic and possibly the fastest. Although it
is not a hobbyist site, www.kednos.com is built and served entirely
using WASD and its content management system, VWcms (both by Mark Daniel).

You can find WASD and its accompanying software here:

http://wasd.vsm.com.au/

WASD is completely free and released under the GPL. The code quality is
also very high. I thoroughly recommend checking it out.

I haven't used WASD, but am familiar with and recommend the OSU web
server: http://www.ecr6.ohio-state.edu/www/doc/serverinfo.html

WASD is your friend and there's a book that discusses setting up this
product.
But what kind of VAX systems do you have? Most models that are useful
for a hobbyist only have 10 Mb/s ethernet and won't do much more than
half that rate.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! 10Mb/s is plenty fast for me (or
5Mb/s for that matter). I'm just playing around. Actually, I have
several from a 3100/10 up to a 4000/700. I also have an 11/750 that
needs restoration. I have a 4000/90 but no memory. It seems that
memory for VAXstations is difficult or expensive to come by.

I'm in the process of setting up a new WASD server for the hecnet.eu
website. I'll definitely be blogging about it, as most of the
information out there appears to be targetted at production level
sites rather than more hobbyist fair. Suffice to say, I got to a point
last night and ordered the book...

Regards, Mark.

I was specifically referring to the restoration of the 11/750, but
it's all good. :)
