I don't recall what positions 1 and 2 actually are,
but the RAM slots must be populated "columnwise",
as on the pixxs at

The URL just posted also has a note that if VS4000 SIMMs are used, only
4MB will work...wonder if that's what you have?

You know what? That is kind of the problem. They were 16MB SIMMs
that I thought were 4MB SIMMs. Somehow I had it in my mind that they
were 4MB SIMMs. So that possibly explains it. I'm going to get some
4MB SIMMs here soon from someone else on the group who has offered.
So, I'll know when I get them and can try them...
