I have a VS3100-M76 which I haven't used for a while. I have a monitor
(SOG), keyboard, mouse etc.

I have set S3 'down' to enable video rather than alternate console.

On power-up the diagnostic LEDs start their sequence, and stop at:
1100 0000
This apparently means it has started the DZ test.

Nothing else happens; too early for video anyway, I guess.

My question is: what is likely to be the issue? Nothing plugged into the
serial port or the printer port at all.

Do you have a keyboard and mouse attached? They're run by the DZ.

I do have them attached, but I'll check the connections...that's useful
to know, thanks. It also explains why the DZ is stated as having four
ports!

OTOH, it looks like the whole DZ is hanging, rather than one item on it
(which is reported differently).

I once built a cable for the 3100 (as well as the 2000s) at a previous
place of employment to break out the mouse and keyboard ports to 25-bit
connectors so we could hang four terminals off the thing.

Worked great.

I don't recall whether the 2000 and 3100 had the same pinout for the
15-pin connector, but I do recall that the DECstation 5000s used a
different pinout.
