When you power on a 1050, it checks the operation of the 6532 chip. If it
fails, the select light just blinks (it is checking over and over...). Once
it thinks that the main chips are OK, the drive seeks (steps) to track 0 by
moving the head back until the track 0 sensor is active. If the track 0
sensor does not see the flag after 40 or 50 steps, the 1050 dies. If your
drive moves the head, it probably passed the logic tests. If the head moves
but the drive will not run, it is probably the track 0 sensor. It is a
little, black, U-shaped gadget mounted at the back of the head carriage.
They go bad all the time.

I have no idea. I would just send it in to get repaired. Try the
sites below or you could just ask them:

Any ideas if it is still possible to get hold of a replacement 6532 chip?
Mine's dead!

There are still 8-bit dealers online with lots of inventory (don't know
about 6532s...). There is also a guy on e-bay that sells 1050 parts - he may
have some. Or, just buy some 1050s for parts, like I did.

Assuming you have some electronics ability...

Open up the drive, remove the shield and reseat all of the socketed chips.

Clean the r/w head, don't get the pressure pad wet.

Make sure the power supply is good/the right one. 9VAC 31VA or bigger.

Make sure no pins are bent/shorted in the SIO jacks.

Hi Rick

Pressure pad in a 1050?, this is a double sided drive isn't it?.
