Parts or all of this may be apocryphal, but as I understand it,
Datasoft was bought out by Batteries Included, who then proceeded to
go bust. (Or were bought out by Activision or EA or one of those big
companies, can't recall which. It's been a long time since I was
told what happened)

But yes, Datasoft was a great company. They brought out Alternate
Reality, after all -- my favourite game of all time on any machine.
Pity about Philip's quest for the rights, though. The PC remake he
was working on looked quite good.

Immediately !!
Although I already own them on disk I would love to buy them on carts
too...
How about other Datasoft productions, like Moon Shuttle, Gunsmoke
(Gunslinger), Dallas Quest, Neverending story (still hunting for the
disk!), Zaxxon (Sega, also released by Datasoft), Super Zaxxon, Pacman
(with interludes or intermissions), Thomahawk (originally by Digital
Integration, released by Datasoft also), Mercenary (originally from
Novagen), Drol (was it Datasoft or Broderbund? must have been Broderbund
since its only b/w on PAL, like many other Broderbund games), 221B Baker
Street, Porky and the wolfes (damn, I just forgot the name, but I have
it on disk!), A.R. The City and The dungeon (would need an elite/super
professional programmer to get them onto a cart) and many more I do not
remember now... -Andreas

Goonies is awesome too, but Bruce Lee is the first one I discovered I had in
my collection, played it a lot, then I weeded out my disks and found Goonies,
Zombies, and a ton of others.

You what!!!

You call yourself an Atari person and you have not played Goonies, Zorro or
Conan???

(All made with the Datasoft game construction kit) ;-)

Sorry to tell you, its a joke, hence the wicked smiley..

The joke being that if you look at all those games they basically look like they
came off a construction kit because they look so similar.

Sorry about the confusion

They may look similar but they don't play similar... ly.

I read all the Conan books and saw the movies. The game doesn't do
Conan justice. I would go so far as to say it is rather crappy, with
garish colors and buggy graphics.

Bruce Lee on the other hand is a terrific 8bit game.

I never said they did..Although tbh they do in most cases :-)

Go and have a good look at them for 5 mins each, apart from the fabby Bruce Lee
they do play very like each other (obviously not with the Goonies multi player)

What annoyed me with Conan and with Zorro a tad was the really tight pixel
perfect stuff needed.

Indeed...Although dead easy to finish..

Yes -- but great replayability, so you could finish it again and
again... :-)

Besides, I love it when the big green guy bellows (moos?)

The old trick with starting a two player game (more lives) and then moving the
2nd player joystick around with your foot to keep it active worked a treat until
you became perfect at the game :-)

While agreeing that Bruce Lee is the better game (I played it till my wrists
ached just a few weeks ago) I have to stand up for Conan too. I still have
fond memories of the rhythm of the...what was it, dragons? The level where
several different creatures are all the same noise at a slightly different
tempo, so the drift pattern took several seconds to repeat.
