I have never really understood electronics at all. I can solder a bit, and get what it means for a circuit to be open or closed, but that's about all.

I have an Apple IIc Plus, which notably lacks a headphone jack. But audio out is available on pin 5 of the video expansion connector, as detailed by Apple here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TA39895

it says pin 5 is: 1VSOUND One-volt sound signal from pin 5 of the audio hybrid circuit (AUD).

Do any of you smart people know what would I need to do to adapt this to line level? I assume I can't just take the raw signal (and the GND signal on pin 13) and call it a day. Or maybe I can. This is why I'm asking.

Thanks,
Ivan.

"Line level" is nominally 1v, and a "medium" impedance (ie it won't drive
an 8ohm speaker, but it's not 10,000ohms).

I can't see why that pin would be anything else. What's it supposed to
drive? An audio amplifier, or even specifically some audio input on a
device, which would be "line level".

Precisely because it's brought out, I'd assume it is line level. I have
no experience with a IIC though.

Of course, the caveat is that "nominally 1v" or "line level output" has no
real standard in terms of level. I have an amplifier that's fed from a
VCR, a DVD player and a CD player, and I generally have to adjust the
volume when switching to any of them, because the "line level output" is
not the same from each.

That should work fine, Ivan. It's a "line-level" audio output.
