I need a little help w/ this problem w/ a IIGS that has a modified SCSI
to play nice w/ zip drive.

(1)
I try to get get a disk image of the boot drive using Imagemaker. Not
possible (?)
It kinda hangs...

(2)
So I boot from another partition.

But trying to write the image straight to the zipdisk I get an I/O
error $0027 Odd, because writing 3.5 images to the zip is no problem!

(3)
So OK I'll write the image to another partition. Imagemaker does it - nice!!

But now I can't move the image to the Zip.
Finder tried, but then goes in to the read/write loop & no progress is made.

Any Ideas? I'd like to to this so I can try out Sweet16 :-)
I'm not sure what the hangup is.

Thanks!

Where are you trying to write the image to?
What size is the partition you are trying to image?

Repeating questions from above.....

All I can think of is that you're trying to write a 32MB image
to a 32MB partition, but, you say in #3 that it does it. Weird.
Unless in #3 you wrote the image to an HFS partition, and if it
is 32MB it won't fit on a 32MB partition on the Zip drive. Does
the Zip drive have an HFS partition?

Bill, in sum:

success: writing 3.5 image directly to zip drive that is formatted
single partion HFS

success: writing 35 MB image of partioned Focus drive to another
partition on the focus card

FAIL: copying that image on to the HFS zip disk

FAIL writing a 35 MB image directly to the zipdisk

in sum, so far I can make one put can't get it onto the zip, though 3.5
images are cake.

Hi There,
I have two ideas:
- the HFS FST is not patched. Your GS/OS installation may not behave
well with HFS disks.
=> Get PATCHHFS.SHK @ http://mirrors.apple2.org.za/ground.icaen.uiowa.edu/apple16/System/Patches/

- your disk is damaged.
=> Please validate the disk from the Finder or from Advanced Disk
Utility.

Antoine!! -

I thought I did that long ago, but can't be sure-- I'll get that & try.

Zip disk?
If you mean the zip disk I tried two.

If you mean the Focaus drive I ran Deliverance on it - no errors.

we'll see!

Thanks,
- What does "modified SCSI" mean?
- What is the capacity of one ZIP disk?

This is Apple IiSpped SCSI card modified to, I believe, provide termination.

I think zip disks are 100MB give or take.

BTW it was not HFS FST was already patched, so it was not that.

But meanwhile I COULD write an image of another partition on the focus
card to the zip disk no problem.

So there must be something odd about the problem partition.

Not sure what to look for. What could go wrong, if the partition I am
trying to image is good? Stumped for the moment...

Hi,
I found that formatting the Zip on a Mac G4 with 10.5.8 formatting it
with only the Standard HFS (no OS 9.1 drivers). All the other HFS
will not work on the IIgs. Even the HFS on the IIgs (patched) does not
play well on the Mac 10.5. But if you format it on the Mac it can be
used by bother machines. But I only moved disk images back and forth.
I did not image partitions. The extended journalled HFS and case
sensitive do not work on the IIgs. IIgs with Ramfast and HD and a Zip.

Take Care

Using a Mac G4 with 10.5.8. I can transfer the zip carts between the
II machines. The mac does not seem to like the Zips formatted on the
IIgs. 2 different finders. But only the Standard HFS will work. No of
the others on mac will work on the IIgs. I have only used them to move
images, not images of partitions.
