But shoot it was 99 cents...

http://jordanmechner.com/blog/2013/05/introducing-karateka-classic/

Quote:
I’ve heard from a lot of people who’ve expressed the desire to replay a certain 1984 side-scrolling, bird-punching game that traumatized them in childhood, exactly the way they remember it — on their mobile devices.
So, by popular demand, I’m happy to announce that Karateka Classic is coming to the App Store and Google Play this Thursday. It’s not a remake, not a port, but a faithful pixel-perfect emulation of the original Apple II game, with Olivier Goguel’s ActiveGS emulator running my 6502 assembly language code, graphics, and my dad’s music.
In engineering the app, Olivier has added a number of nifty touches, including the ability to choose between color CRT, amber, or green screen, as well as a few touchscreen-friendly updates, and a certain peculiarity of the 5.25″ floppy disk version which I won’t spoil here.

Having owned the 5.25" version in the past, I bet I know what you're
referring to. =P

oh, I'm not referring to anything -- that was a quote from Mechner. But yes I'm quite certain I know what he's referring to also. ;-)

Its actually KEGS underneath... speaking of, ActiveGS hasn't released
their source in about 3 years now.

ActiveGS isn't exactly new to iOS, actually. It's at the heart of the "Best of FTA" app for both iPhone and iPad.

...and as a bonus, it isn't that difficult to add your own disk images to it
to use it as a general-purpose IIGS emulator. I might even have gotten it
to boot into the Finder on my iPad at one point. (A bootable image needs to
be prepared elsewhere first, whether with an emulator on another system or
by imaging a bootable disk or partition from one of your Apple IIs.)

Did you notice that the disk image included with the .IPA downloaded from AppleStore is the Brutal Deluxe crack?

Can't say I'm surprised - iirc, wasn't someone from Brutal Deluxe involved
in the release? =P

It's also the disk image I'm working on filecracking.

We are honored but we did not know that nor did we participate.
Our crack is probably cleaner than others, understand less signed ;-)

The Karateka release is the work of JM with the coding skills of Olivier Goguel. That's all!

is this still possible? I haven't been able to add any images under iOS 6.1.3.

Maybe you should try "ActiveGS - Best of FTA" (free on App Store) and look at this guide: http://jerkwerks.com/finally-apple-ii-and-iigs-warez-on-your-ipad/

With a jailbreak, anything is possible. :-)

(As to whether there's a suitable file-manipulation method for a
non-jailbroken device, I couldn't say.)

For iOS 6, a jailbreak is required. The alternative if you cannot JB
your device is to contact the author of ActiveGS and request the "Full"
version. You'll need your UDID handy as well.

The "full" version directly integrates with VirtualApple.org. Every II
and IIgs title at your fingertips. And it's easier to add your own images.

Sadly, not in the app store.
