Hey all,

I've posted this on the arcade newsgroups, but didn't have any replies
to it. I thought I'd post here to see if any techies can answer my
questions.

I got an Apple IIGS monitor recently (Apple Color Monitor) that I'm
trying to hookup to JAMMA.
Here is the monitor pinout:
1 Signal ground (Red)
2 Analog RED with sync
3 Composite sync
4 No connection
5 Analog GREEN with sync
6 Signal ground (Green)
7 -5 volts DC
8 +12 volts DC
9 Analog BLUE with sync
10 No connection
11 Sound 1V peak-to-peak
12 NTSC/composite color video out
13 Signal ground (Blue)
14 No connection
15 No connection
Shield System ground

Here is how I have it wired:

JAMMA Video Ground to Pins 1,6,13 (Each color on the monitor has a
seperate video ground. I tied them all together).
JAMMA Red to Pin 2 (Red Composite Video)
JAMMA Sync to Pin 3 (Composite Sync)
JAMMA Green to Pin 5 (Green Composite Video)
JAMMA Blue to Pin 9 (Blue Composite Video)

Does the monitor pinout above look correct? I've had a couple of
sites state that the video ground from the JAMMA board needs to hook
up to pin 12. But I didn't see ground labeled on this pin at all.
What do you guys think?

The JAMMA, the SainSmart <http://www.sainsmart.com/sainsmart-gbs-8220-rgb-cga-ega-yuv-to-vga-arcade-hd-video-convert-board.html> and the Delta <http://www.converters.tv/products/vga_to_vga/657.html> all seem to be variations on the same basic Design..

I just got a SainSmart and want to "attempt" to make a connection it to a Teknika MA-RGB7 and the ][gs.

The MA-RGB7 documentation seems to have no Pin Out information, but the AppleColor RGB Card and the Digital Prism Card from Applied Engineering seem to be Identical to each other, so I would guess that the MA-RGB7 would be wired very similarly...

The SainSmart card I got came with a Pig-Tail Harness for P11 ( R, G, B, S, HS, VS, GND ) and P9 ( +5-12VDC, GND ). The Pig-Tail Harness for P11 has no Horizontal Sync ( HS ) wire, just the Vertical Sync ( VS ) and a wire for the Shield ( S )...

Now, about your ][gs and the JAMMA...

Marco Orlandi, <http://www.apple-iigs.info/doc/fichiers/Using%20Apple%20II%20AppleColor%20RGB%20Card%20with%20an%20Apple%20Analog%20Monitor.pdf>, has Pin-Outs for the AppleColor RGB Card and the ][gs RGB Port. His ][gs RGB Port Pin-Outs match yours..

I "believe" that ALL the Outputs are 0-5 VDC ( TTL ), so if you get the Wrong Video Sync, try the other one.. If Tying ALL the Grounds together seems to cause Interference, you might try using only One, possibly the Red or the Green..

I wouldn't connect the JAMMA Ground to the NTSC/Composite Output... I would think that Shorting the Output would not be a Wise Thing to Do.. Possibly the ][gs Uses that to tell it to provide NO Composite and Only Output RGB.... I guess I will find out shortly....

As far as I know, The IIgs always outputs RGB and composite video, there
are no select or sense pins to communicate monitor type so no need to
ground anything extra. The monitor itself uses the dedicated composite
sync pin. The Applecolor RGB only accepts composite sync, not H+V sync,
sync-on-green, or composite video.

After re-reading this Posting, I realized that you must have the JAMMA CV-02 http://www.jammaboards.com/store/vga-to-cga-rgb-tv-video-converter-cv-02-cv-02.html

I would tie all the Grounds together and Connect to the Ground on the JAMMA Board, the R to R, the G to G and the B to B, and the H+V Sync to the Sync.

I bought the equivalent of the JAMMA GBS-8220, and Connected a Teknika MA-RGB7 in an Apple ][e to it, then I disconnected the Apple ][e and connected an Apple ][gs to it.

My Results, so far are posted here, http://tech.markoverholser.com/?q=node/27

The Teknika MA-RGB7 with the SainSmart and the Apple ][gs with the SainSmart are now in separate Threads..
