Another bunch of fakes:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/180916882049?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648

The photo shows likely genuine parts, but I got the same crap as before.
In fact worse - they don't even run at 12 MHz as the other ones, but
only at 8 MHz. No more e-bay. I guess plan "C" is to wait the 4-5 weeks
from Zilog.

would the Z8S18020PSG be compatible?

digikey has 90 of them

No. Pin count is too high.

Jameco is always my first choice - it is a mile or two from my home.

did you?

That response makes _no_ sense at all.

It does to me. If you suggest I look in a certain place it would make
sense to first check it yourself. And not to suggest an on-line store
that has no CPUs of any kind at all.

Agreed. I always try Jameco first too, but the shipping on just a few
items can be atrocious.

Makes perfect sense... He is asking you if you tried looking for
the Z80 chips he needs on there. If you want to help, then help.

It does in fact have CPUs, even Z80s, but I could only find the 2, 4 and
6 MHz versions.

I'll meet you half way: apparently there is more than one "Unicorn
Electronics". When I entered this name into Google I got this:
http://unicornelex.com/

And they sure have no CPUs. So my reply was a bit harsher than it
should have been.

The good fallout is that I have learned about a new (to me) on-line store.

I have no way of knowing whether or not these are fakes, but are the ones at the following address (in theory) the correct ones?

There's a button on that URL--Ask a question. So ask them if they are
fake. :-)

Great idea! I'd better ask them if their answer to that question is truthful or not too while I'm at it. You can't be too cautious nowadays!

They apparently have figured that out--for the next month or so they are
featuring free shipping. ;-)

I just checked Mouser, and they show the Z84C0020PEC as "obsolete", but
then indicate that there is a "ROHS Version available", linking to the
Z84C0020PEG. I'm not an expert on this by any means, but maybe you'd
have better luck looking for the latter?

But if they're liars, they'll lie about that, too. So you have to ask
the question this way: "If I were to ask if they are fake, what would
your answer be?" :-)

Don't be a dick.

First search result for "z80" on the Unicorn Electronics website:
http://198.170.117.30/IC/Z80.html
6502
http://198.170.117.30/IC/6500.html
6800
http://198.170.117.30/IC/6800.html
General products page

Yeah, not a CPU in sight.

If you need fake and not working components, a good address: UTSOURCE
http://stores.ebay.com/UTSOURCE-STORE
http://www.utsource.net/

Like most of the Chinese sellers, they sell counterfeit components.
If you are lucky, they work but not vey well.

Last month, I received:
- HD63C09EP(25pcs): All fake
- HD63C09P (10pcs): All fake
- MC6820 (1pc): fake

I would urge anyone having such experiences to complain loudly to eBay. And,
if that fails, US Customs Service (since they theoretically have an interest
in counterfeits).
