I'm looking for a complete, working Diamond Trackstar E (not a plus) package. I'm willing to pay cash or trade. I'd consider trading an Apple II or IIGS accelerator or perhaps some other desirable A2 item (just ask).

Sean,

I have a Trackstar+ and a Trackstar 128. I take it that neither of these are
of interest, but I'm curious what the "E" model offers that makes it attractive.

From what I read, when I looked up Diamond Trackstar E since I had never heard of it, it's an Apple IIe on a plug-in card for IBM PC's and compatibles.

A little nosing around on Google suggests that the Plus and 128 also emulate
the IIe. But, the "E" model supports the "enhanced" IIe features (65C02 and
different character set, firmware, etc.)

Okay, I guess I should have been more specific because when I say IIe I mean the enhanced 128k, IIc compatible, version not the original 64k version.

That, and the need for HD support. Thanks everyone - I believe everything is sourced for now.

Cool! Let us know how it goes. I did find some zip archives that claim to
bring hard disk support to the older models as well. YMMV.

I had one of these for a few years, and generally found the experience rather unsatisfactory compared to a real //e. I think some of us would be interested in hearing what plans you have for it, if the plans aren't Top Secret.

Hi Warren - I agree, the Trackstar is not as good as a real IIe but for what it does and how it goes about it, it's quite good despite it's limitations.

My initial call for help was on behalf of a special needs person I've been assisting for quite some time. Her situation is *very* complicated -- suffice to say, it was easier to replace her dead Trackstar than to provide her with a real Apple II. Thanks to a generous contribution, she now has the tools she's accustomed to with minimal disruption to her lifestyle.

Personally, I've had on and off again interests in the Trackstar line over the years -- thanks to this recent event, my interest is now 'on' again. I'm now researching the various differences in the boards Diamond has produced and may put together something a bit more comprehensive documenting those bits at some point.
