Hi again,

I'm reactivating real CPC hardware at the moment and therefore have to
do some repairs and to recreate some disks.
As I'm not a newbie to the CPC (and it's emulator) scene I'm aware of a
couple of ways how to transfer data from CPC to PC and vice versa.
However, I wonder whether there is a disk backup software (for the CPC!)
out that dumps and restores a disk completely to and from tape.

I do not mean saving the single programs but writing a complete disk
image (e.g. trackwise) to tape including all needed track, sector, gap
and other information needed to faithfully recreate the disk.
Just what discology does from disk to disk.

This would work on a real plain CPC and on an emulator and would allow
to transfer even copy protected disks from and to each other without any
hardware hacks and without any PC software besides the emulator itself.

But has ever anyone done this job?

It's a very interesting question. I found in the tool section
http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Applications#Disc_utilities

a backup tool named "Copy-Master (RSE Software)" that
is supposed to certainly do disc->cassette transer.

But I haven't tried it yet.

Hope it helps.

I am sure that there was a DES utility in the Robot PD library that did
just this. Unfortunately that woudl also mean you DES on rom I guess.
