I used setbatt to make sure all my parameters are correct. With
Timeout = Short the drive will not boot from a cold restart. Holding
down both mouse buttons the setup screen shows only DF0 and DF1. If I
then cancel the setup screen and hit the boot button the drive will
then boot the system. Or I can boot off of a floppy and then do a
warm reboot and everything works well.
With Timeout = Long after power on there is a 9 -11 second wait and
the booting proceeds normally off of the HD. If I hold down the
mouse buttons in this scenario all drives are shown in the boot screen
setup.
I guess I can live with this slow boot but would like to know why it's
happening. Never had a problem with spin up speed or anything with
the drive. I doubt in fact it has anything to do with spin up speed
for example if TIMEOUT=Short and I do a cold boot I get some immediate
HD access followed by the INSERT DISK screen. I can press Ctrl-A-A
forever and I still keep getting the INSERT DISK screen.
Some other things, I have a SCSI tape drive external but it makes no
difference if it is connected or not.
Any ideas appreciated....
