I used to run a Trump Card with my 500. It was a sidecar expansion that
would run SCSI hard drives. I think I ran a 1Gb scsi on mine. It was a
bit flaky on the install, but after I had everyting installed it worked
like a dream. The only drawback was the stock 500 power supply did not
have enough juice to push SCSI hard drives, so I used an old PC AT power
supply to run the hard drive, I would power the drive up and let it settle
then power the 500. I know this is not a Mod, just that there are
controllers for this purpose. The Trump card was probably the worst of the
options, but I got mine for free.

I used a Supra500XP myself. I think it had an extra 4MB of RAM and a
50MB HD. It also had a dedicated power supply.
I have heard of people modding the A500 by replacing the 3.5" floppy
drive with a half-height HD. I think it involved some cutting of the
metal shielding on the inside of the case to make room for it. I
couldn't tell you what they did for power though...
They also made tower cases that let you put the A500 MB inside and
basically use it like an A2000.
You might be able to find something on Aminet. Maybe under the
DOCS/HARD directory?

You can even put an 040 in it if you like. Amiga Format ran an article
called ;return of the Zombie A500' and showed various A500s with all
sorts of expansions with many in the original case.
I don't remember the issue date though it was after the release of the
A1200.

Like I said, Future are in it for the money. The hobbyist market is
small. Consequently expenditure would likely be greater than income.
OTOH, they do produce 64 publications ranging from car mags to stitch
craft, taking in cycling, photography, genealogy and gaming on the way.
It'd be harder to get more hobbyist, I think. :-)

Well, there's one sale. :-)
Mind you, there's a lot of info on the 'net about modding old computers.
The Atari 8 bit machines, and C= machines are both well covered. I
suspect the Spectrum is, too.

That's true for circuit and layout diagrams, it's true. Although, with
printers being as good as they are these days, even that's becoming less
true. Plus, with a few scraps of paper, and a dodgy print-out, you're
only _adding_ to the home-brew feel of modding. :-)
