The remaining copies were sent to Amiga hardware and software vendors.
The disk was readable by the Scribble! word processor. It was a full
disk which when printed out was 160 pages of text. One of the
outstanding features was a list of highly recommended science fiction
novels, so sf fans may have been more interested than the usual run of
the mill. The remainder was a kitchen sink of blather. Basically it
was whatever came to my mind at the keyboard as a way to fill up the
disk. I was attempting to start up a monthly computer diskette
magazine, which made MUCH more sense in the days before the internet
than in the 90s up to now. The scheme was a dismal flop, with only
seven responses returned. So after publishing HotDisk 2 as promised
and sending it out to the respondents, I gave up on the idea.
What I would like to know is whether anyone still has a working Amiga
and Scribble! with the contents of the disk archived. If so then would
you please post a response on this thread, or alternatively privately
send me an email to cla...@comcast.net ? What I want is to publish
the contents of the disk on my Google group "Lonnie Courtney Clay" for
historical purposes. So I need to have plain text or HTML versions of
the files converted from Scribble! format. Of course I still have the
original disks, but they spent several years in the attic. So 99%
probability is that they are unreadable, hence my desperate plea. Also
I have not had a working Amiga since 1997.
Somewhat off topic, if you want to see a picture of me then check out

modified on July 1 is my revenge for being repeatedly hacked on
Windows XP and Vista machines. Thread "I discuss music and the English
Language" gives lists of movies which I liked from 1967 to present. I
am about to make a new thread in the next couple of days on that
topic, so if you are interested in old movies you might want to wait
for it rather than reading the current thread. In case you were
wondering, due to my radical political views and bad reputation (see
Google group rec.arts.sf.written thread "I claim the title of world's
greatest con artist!!!") nobody is interested in employing me
regardless of my talents. Someday the situation may evolve into a
hospitable environment, but I am not holding my breath waiting for
it.....

I'd help if I could.
If nobody can help you, try finding somebody with an Amiga and get the
disk copied asap, it may yet be okay. I don't have Scribble, but there has
to be a way.

I give my permission for anyone at all to contact anyone else at all
regarding this matter. I give my permission for anyone at all to do
whatever is necessary (without contacting me) to convert the original
two FCP-HotDisk 1&2 into whatever form is appropriate for posting the
unexpurgated contents on the internet. No further participation by me
is required, because (although I would be extremely pleased to see the
two disks published) I lack the expertise and resources to perform the
task myself. No compensation is forthcoming in this matter between any
of the parties involved. The only reward expected by anyone is the
satisfaction of seeing a minor event in Amiga history revealed to the
present public and future miners of internet archives. If those
statements are not sufficiently clear or fail to encompass all
potential legal disputes, then just post a response on this thread
which highlights the defect. I will respond in a timely fashion to
anyone who is willing to take the time to post on this thread.

Thanks for looking! It seems very likely that the original disks are
all unreadable. What is needed is somebody who copied their disk to a
hard drive. Then as computers upgraded over the years, the hard drive
copy was transferred along with other things to newer computers. As a
fallback position, I can buy a scanner and scan in the original
printouts....

Just a thought, get somebody to try the disk. It may well work, I've got
floppies here that are ancient and not given me any trouble.

That is a good suggestion! Now all I need is to find someone in my
area who has a working Amiga etc. etc. etc. I am reluctant to send it
through the mail, since it could so easily be damaged or lost. There
is no hurry, so I am willing to see what turns up as a result of this
post. Actually, before I even made this post I contacted a person
located by an internet search who had the whole ball of wax. So the
set of persons who still have it is not empty. Unfortunately, that
person lacks an Amiga, so I opened up this can of worms to see if
anything would squirm out....

It will take about a week but I do have access to real Amigas and an ADF
will allow you to use it with WinUAE or the like.

Thank you very much! However I no longer use Microsoft products or
computers. I have an Apple Mac Mini. It has no 3.5 inch diskette port.
Rather than spend a week of your time on this, perhaps it would be
better to wait for the rumor mill to disperse my request until a
golden combination of a hard drive descendant of my disk, the
Scribble! word processor, an Amiga or comparable computer, and
interest in the project come together like magic. In a month or two if
nothing happens sooner, I will buy a scanner and scan the original
printouts, then post the results on Google group "Lonnie Courtney
Clay". So I have the essential piece of the puzzle myself. All that is
stopping me is the cost of buying hardware to perform the task. My
only income is a VA disability pension which I get for being
crazy......

run through emulation a true amiga and all amiga software except some
early games that take hardware short cuts will work at blazing speed.

Thank you very much for the two links! I will visit them as soon as I
post this. I hate to be such a moving target, but I am giving up on
Apple computers the way I gave up on Microsoft products. In the past
week I have encountered an apparently insurmountable problem with my
Mac Mini. Every minute or so it pops up a requester twice for "Unlock
Keychain" from Safari wanting me to unlock my login keychain. This is
a hacker initiated rather than website initiated request. If I oblige
and unlock it, then within a few minutes, I get the "beach ball of
death" and other problems. I tried to work out the problem by posting
on the Apple forum a request for how to suppress the popup, and was
given the runaround. So last night I purchased on the web a Sun Ultra
20 M2 Workstation, running Solaris and Linux. It has only a DVD
player, so I cannot put a 3.5 inch diskette into it anyway. I might
borrow a craposoft XP machine from my brother and use it offline to
try out the old disks, if as you say I can emulate an Amiga with a
modern machine. I am amazed to learn that somebody thought it
worthwhile to develop such software, unless it was Amigans who did it.
My situation reminds me of the Amiga game "Global Effect". It was a
primitive world simulator written by ecofreaks which pretended to be a
game. No matter how long you stretched out the game, the world died
either from pollution, global warming, or a catastrophic ice age.
There was NO way to win. The only triumph was in how long you could
avert disaster. What a bummer.....

ADF. The problem could be getting an ADF of your original files. If you

Thank you very much for your help! I live in Arlington TN, U.S.A.,
which is in Fayette county east of Shelby county. The city of Memphis
and small city of Bartlett in Shelby country are the nearest
population centers. My phone number is 901-867-3152. I will see what
information I can find about how to read Amiga formatted disks using
modern 3.5 inch floppy drives. There may be a real problem there
because the cylinder, sector, and track layouts changed with increased
density media long ago. What I would need to read my original disks is
probably a working Amiga. At one point I had two Amiga 1000 and an
Amiga 2000. But they were worn out, and some equipment was discarded
when I moved from Bartlett to Arlington in 2001. I offer all of my old
Amiga stuff to anyone who shows up at the door with a working Amiga
for processing my disks. That is at least two cartons of games and
books plus the hardware. As a sign of optimism, I will start digging
it out of the closets today!
