You've obviously missed the smartphone revolution. Last time I 
went to a hotel, I showed them my booking on a small computer 
screen (my phone). Same at any place where they email your booking 
to you.

Admittedly that doesn't work yet for boarding cards but it's only 
a matter of time, I'd guess.
