I'm still struggling - different problem now!

I'm reduced to posting on google gropes again!

Thanks to eveyone who has been trying to help me. I was ready to give
up but today I found, buried deep somewhere, a directory called
"backboot". It was what it says!

So I moved the present !Boot and replaced it with the one I had
found ... and rebooted. Hey Presto - display settings are fine.

But now 1) I have no internet!
2) I have a Net icon and two copies of printers in the task bar.
3) !NetFetch is not stuck to the backdrop.

Where will I find the correct files to put these right so I can copy
them back over the wrong ones? And what are they called, please?

(I know I could change the setting for the internet in !Boot but can't
remember what they are)

Forget it all!! I have found them myself (proud!) and everything is
back to how it was before the battery needed changing.

Many thanks to all who tried to help, especially those who took a lot
of trouble with detailed emails! I'm very grateful!
