If yes, what setup/software is required? - considering DHCP is
required? Will I have to go through a router?

Yes. Either as seperate box (cable modem router - about 150ukp) or
another machine running for example Linux or Windows.

Yes.

No extra software.
Personally, I got a Cable/DSL router, because it doesn't involve
setting up an arsey Lin(s)ux box as a router.
You're looking at 200ukp for one though. I'd recommend either the
LinkSys (sp?) DSL router or the Netgear RT314 (which I use).
People are going to recommend using a PC, but ignore them, they're
just voices in your head.

Since you suggested it - you could set up an old 486 for not very much - I
picked up one the other day for £8. Linux is also a good choice for the os.
However setting up does take some thought, although Redhat, which is one of
the distros I use, is supplied with easy to use configuration tools - as are
most distros.

At this point I think it would be a good idea to point out that there are
linux distros out there designed specifically as firewall/routers/NAT
which would most probably be faster than using a distro designed for the
desktop.
