Hi

Does anyone have a known goos MDF for 2560 x 1400 that they could post?

For Iyonix & Dell U2711.

Thanks

I don't know about the Iyonix & Dell U2711, but curiously I asked this very
question only a week ago on the Virtual Acorn mailing list. Alex Hamilton
kindly put together the following definition for use on my Mac:

# For display in the Windows desktop
# 2560 x 1440 (51hz)
startmode
mode_name:2560x1440
x_res:2560
y_res:1440
pixel_rate:197000
h_timings:10,10,16,2560,0,0
v_timings:10,0,0,1440,0,0
sync_pol:0
endmode

It worked fine for me (but only at 32k colours in ARM610 emulation) - use at
your own risk, of course.

Would be interesting to know if this worked.

Unfortunately not. I suspect it might be the monitor rejecting (for no
good reason I can see) its native resolution.

If that is the case, then VGA is a pointless input on this device.
(Unless you want a fuzzy display.)

Given the amount of aggro I had actually getting a working monitor
from Dell, and this, I doubt I shall be buying any more of their
products.

I've a 19inch DELL LCD - running at 1152 x 864 52Hz -RPC RO5.19 /
(Viewfinder RO4.02) /Iyonix - no problems.

(1366 x 768 60Hz Opt res)- this monitor gives the res details of the
mode you are using.

Presume you have a copy of !MakeModes - CJE should have a copy on
their site.

First load/start with a known good mode in !MakeModes - 1920 x 1200
60Hz - should be a good start.

Get to know the program - ie when there is no signal - which key you
click to return to last mode. (ESC)

Next find the Pixel rate (KHz) try dropping/changing this number and
see how low you can get the Frame rate 50-30 Hz - keep clicking the
Test Mode button - see how the monitor responds.

Your monitor - if the same as mine gives info on working modes.

The lower the Hz the less work the graphics card has to do.

Next try increasing the Display - values - horiz/vertical - best to do
one at a time - say +100 units - keep checking - to see if the monitor
still responds to the new values.

To make sure - new values are displayed in !MakeModes - click Adjust
on the [Bits per pixel] menu and cycle between 16 bpp and 32 bpp.

Druck seems to have got a working mode for his CRT - and CJE do a
mode for a 30inch LCD (2560 x 1600) VGA.

This monitor was seen at last years SW 2012 show - being run from a
Beagleboard - 1920 x 1200 30Hz? - using dig input.

Hope this is of some use - use at your own risk.

Bye

Modes for emulators aren't real MDFs, because emulators don't care for any
of the timing: they just read out the height and width and ignore the rest.
Real hardware does care about timing, so you need to get it right to get a
display. So don't take a mode designed for an emulator, it won't work.
