Brilliant, a very much needed function.

This is not a feature I plan to use, but I welcome it because it is a
sticking point for some users who organise their systems differently
from me.

I'm not convinced it would be a good move to allow both the fixed path
and the user choice on the same system.

I think that there should be a setting in choices to either specify
every package location by d&d or to work as at present and create a
shortcut by d&d using the same frontend.

(Would anyone want to specify only some locations, it would seem the
worst of both worlds?)

Why not?

So, if the default/suggested location for !RandomApp just happens to be the
very location the user would choose to install it - which is a perfectly
feasible possibility - they still have to drag and drop.

I'm put in mind of Save dialogues, in which the path is shown and there's an
"OK" icon the user can click (or Return can be pressed) to save the object
to that path: The user has the choice, they can accept that and allow the
file to be saved there, or they can drag it somewhere.

What you've just suggested for installing packages would be the equivalent
to having an option in RISC OS to only allow one method or the other in Save
dialogues: If you want to be able to drag and drop your files, you can't
click "OK" or hit "Return" to save them to the path shown. (Ignoring the
nightmare that would be when saving new files, rather than ones previously
loaded!)
