After a long journey of research.

The best programme for RISC OS in plotting seems to be a port of GnuPLOT
(v.3.4) which I found on an old CD of GAG (http://www.gag.de). I cannot
find it in the Internet. There is also a newsgroup
(graphics.apps.gnuplot) belonging the programm. The very powerfull
programme was ported by FKW & ETJ vd Pol and is usable in the desktop.
It also creates drawfiles which is a very important issue for me.
However, it isn't bug-free and wasn't supported for many years. A later
port of GNUPlot doesn't seem to be so good (3.71) and is old, too:

However, it is great to have such a programme. The problem (for me using
RISC OS) is always to get the right informations and ideas to find a
solution for something but I like creative computing ;-)

Have you looked at !Tau?
It may not have all the bells and whistles of Gnuplot, but it is a native
RISCOS app and really nice to use.

Yes. It seems to be an expert programme. The idea of !Tau (it
works with work sheet) may be a bit different to those of other
programmes but it is a very interesting idea / philosophy.

In general, I miss a programme that does justice to the ideas of
differential calculus for physics and mathematics.

Do you mean something like a maths toolbox, such as Octave for Linux?

If this is what you mean, there is (or was) a RISCOS port of Rlab.
I used that for quite a while, to do calcs and put results into !Tau,
and found it to be quite good. It may satisfy your needs on RISCOS.

These days I tend to use Linux for this sort of work, using Gnuplot,
But I do miss the elegance of !Tau and the simplicity it provides in
defining the plot/graph format.

FWIW I also have in the (distant) past tried Rlab and Gnuplot. But these
days I seem happy enough to write simple C/C++ progs for calculations, and
then drop the resulting data into !Tau.

I found !Rlab in the contents of an older CD. It's great. Thank you a
lot for the hint.

That's always the point: You can go away to get something more but you
will also have to pay your bill for the move means you'll also lose
something. That is why I don't move away from RISC OS although you
feel often lonely with it. But it does what I need, and other systems
comes with other issues and problems...
