RISC OS versions of AFPL GhostScript 8.53 and GPL GhostScript 8.50 can
be found at:
http://www.mw-software.com/software/ghostscript/ghostscript.html

These new ports bring RISC OS users up to date with the most recent
versions released for other platforms. Compared to the previously
available port of GhostScript 7.03, a version dating back as far as
2001, GhostScript 8.5x offers significant improvements for PDF
generation and PostScript/PDF rendering.

Among many other improvements, it solves the two biggest pitfalls for
RISC OS based PDF generation using GhostScript:
- GhostScript 7.03 often converted text to bitmaps. Usually, this
happened with text in RISC OS fonts without corresponding Type-1
files that were hence included as Type-3 fonts by the RISC OS
PostScript driver. GhostScript 8.5x retains the vector outlines.
- GhostScript 7.03 refused to convert PostScript files with
non-standard page sizes to PDF. This works with GhostScript 8.5x.

GhostScript 8.5x, when used with the GView 1.51 front-end, is the most
capable PDF viewer for RISC OS, supporting masked bitmaps, graduated
fills, embedded TrueType fonts and even transparency in PDF files,
none of which is supported by any other PDF viewer for RISC OS.

About GhostScript
-----------------
GhostScript is a PostScript and PDF interpreter that can turn
PostScript and PDF files into raster image files (e.g., RISC OS
sprites) and that can turn PostScript files (e.g., those produced by
the RISC OS PostScript driver) into PDF files. PostScript and PDF are
industry-standard page description languages defined by Adobe that
describe the appearance of documents with multiple pages containing
text, bitmap images and vector graphics.
