An experimental version of the Free Shared C Library is now
available for download at:

http://www.sagitta.demon.co.uk/download/FSCL-5.53.0-test0.zip

The source code is hosted by the RISC OS Packaging Project:

http://source.riscpkg.org/

The Free Shared C Library is a free re-implementation of the
RISC OS Shared C Library module, and should be able to act as a
drop-in replacement.

Due to the nature of this module it has the potential to cause
widespread disruption to a machine if it fails. For this reason,
it is being released for the purpose of evaluation and compatibility
testing only in the first instance. Please read the supplied
documentation before attempting to use it.

At present the library is suitable for 32-bit environments only,
however this is likely to have been rectified before the first
stable release.

It is hoped to provide a number of enhancements over and above
the Shared C Library supplied with RISC OS. The first of these
is available now and is the ability to log C library calls to
SysLog. (A rebuild of the library module is needed to enable this
functionality.) Future plans include thread safety and improved
interaction with UnixLib programs.
