I'm pleased to announce that version 2.06 of Transient is available for
download from:
http://www.stronged.iconbar.com/fjg/zips/transient.zip
The following changes have been made in this release:
Iconbar drags
---------------
Objects dragged to iconbar icon can now be filtered to different
users. This removes the need to switch to a specific user first.
Previous versions of Transient marked saving from an application to
Transient's iconbar icon as 'Safe'. These are now marked as 'Unsafe'
because directories may be expired. An option has been added to mark
saves from applications as 'Safe' (defaults to Off).
Expiry changes
----------------
Fixed a bug in v2.05 where auto expiry of directories didn't work
when warnings were off. Another bug fixed was overrunning FilerSWIs
buffer for collecting leafnames which caused an abort when there were
lots of directories to expire. Names of directories to expire are now
sent in batches to prevent this.
Choices changes
-----------------
Changing the format of directory names can now be applied to either
the Today directory of the current user, all directories of the
current user or all directories of all users.
User added comments in the Choices file are no longer preserved. The
choices file doesn't have to be edited by hand these days as it can
all be done from the choices window. As users are now unlikely to add
their own comments, Transient no longer tries to preserve them.
The standard comments that Transient adds to the Choices file are now
read from a Messages file, allowing for them to be translated.
Toolbox changes
-----------------
Transient's scroll-lists relied on the ability to align columns by
separating them with tabs, unfortunately the ROOL toolbox modules
do not support this. Scroll-list handling has been rewritten so it
doesn't rely on ROL toolbox modules. Transient does the alignment
itself now so should work on both ROOL and ROL toolbox modules.
About Transient
===============
Transient is a utility which provides a temporary directory on your hard
disc, creating a new subdirectory every day to help you organise files.
You can use it like a RAM disc - drag files to it, save files to it -
but the files will remain on the hard disc until you delete them.
If so desired, the directories can be expired automatically when they've
reached a certain age.
