The next meeting of the RISC OS User Group Of London will be:

MessengerPro v6 client and server
presented by Bryan Hogan

Monday 20th September 2010, 7:45pm

The Blue-Eyed Maid (upstairs in the Spice Lounge restaurant)
173 Borough High Street
London
SE1 1HR

Earlier this year R-Comp released MessengerPro version 6. It added
enhancements to message navigation, much improved printing, better
handling of badly formed emails, and support for running on new RISC
OS platforms such as the Beagleboard and Touchbook.

Version 6 also allows you to share your email with other machines on
your network, be they RISC OS, Windows, MacOS or Linux. This can be
the RISC OS/Windows/Mac/Linux version of MPro or any other email
client.

Some people will remember we tried to show MPro's server ability at
ROUGOL last year, but the failure of the pub network brought the demo
to a premature end! This time we will have a backup network just in
case, and with the projector and large flatscreen TV we will to be
able to show client and server running.

Everyone is encouraged to bring along their own WiFi enabled portable
devices, to experiment in connecting to MessengerPro on RISC OS.

MessengerPro for RISC OS/Windows/Mac/Linux can be purchased from
RComp's website - http://www.rcomp.co.uk/

Forthcoming Meetings
====================

We are excited to announce that our guest on 15th November will be
Stephen Streater of Forbidden Technologies, producer of web based
video editing systems.

RISC OS users will know Stephen from when he formed Eidos Technology
to produce the Optima offline video editing system on the RiscPC.
While competing systems of the time needed expensive dedicated
hardware and large fixed disc arrays, using advanced ARM coded
routines Optima was able to do the work in software using cheap
removable discs.

There were also rumours that Stephen tried to buy out the workstation
division and release the Phoebe (Risc PC2) when Acorn was closed down.
This could be a chance to find out the true story!

RISC OS London Show
===================

Quick reminder that the London Show is on Saturday 23rd October.

The usual arrangements
======================

Admittance is free and everyone is welcome. A range of hot and cold
food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, will be on sale.

Anyone with wireless enabled handhelds or laptops can access the
internet during the meeting, or (if time allows) use ROUGOL's RiscPC
to do so after the main presentation has finished.

The venue is between London Bridge and Borough tube stations, so
readily accessible by public transport (both stations are a five
minute walk away, through well lit and CCTV'd main streets). It also
has ample cycle parking (covered by CCTV) very close by.

If you are arriving by car, the Congestion Charge ends at 6pm and our
meeting starts much later. However, please note that parking on double
red lines is restricted at all times. On single red or yellow lines,
it is best to park after 7pm. If you aren't completely familiar with
*central* London parking or driving, please allow extra time,
patience, and maps.

If you need any help reaching the venue, or any other information,
please contact us as below.
