PDF Suite package. The PDF Suite (as existing users know), allows
almost any RISC OS application to generate electronic PDF documents
which can be read on almost any computer platform. The PDF files
can be emailed, or given out on disc, and solve most document
compatibility issues faced by RISC OS users living in a multi-platform
world.
The new edition, known as PDF Suite Pro, updates the main !PDFmaker
software, and includes the new PostScript 3 driver for RISC OS.
Combined, this gives users the ability to create highly accurate
electronic documents suitable for professional use (eg. professional
print or online distribution).
The PostScript 3 driver solves a number of niggles previously
associated with generating postscript (from which PDF documents
are made), and made conversion of some documents difficult.
256 colour sprites are handled much more sensibly, and 32k / 16m
colour sprites can now have transparencies and overlays without
issue. All fonts are embedded within the PDF for improved
compatibility and rendering on other platforms/printers. Colour
blends are smoother, and fills more flexibile. The net result
is the PDF generation is now even better, ready for professional
and commercial use, straight from your favourite RISC OS
applications. You'll definitely see the benefits when viewing
the results on Windows machines or from PDF-based printers.
The PDF Suite installs in just 4 clicks - one on the CD drive icon,
2 (ie. a double click) on the installation program, and once more
on the "Install" button to start installing. One reboot later,
you're ready to go. Almost every application is supported, including
Impression, Ovation Pro, Artworks, Draw, PhotoDesk and so on.
The standard edition of PDF Suite (20ukp) remains available, as a
cost effective way of making PDFs on your RISC OS computer. We
have used this professionally here at R-Comp for the last few
years very successfully.
However, users wishing to make heavier use of the software, with
more complex documents, will appreciate the benefits of the new Pro
edition, which costs 55ukp.
Upgrades from the original are available for 39ukp.
