The last batch of magazines should be in the post by the time you read this.
As announced earlier, Qercus 289 was delayed by family illness - though the
delay was far longer than expected and it has taken a long time to get back
up to speed after my father's death. Long-term problems with the BT
(broadband) line and mail frozen in a Pluto download means that I have
missed replying to enquiries over the past few months. If I have missed
answering your mail then please send it again as all the usual addresses
should now (finally) be working.

Whilst I won't be able to deal with non-receipts until after the SE Show,
any subscriber at the show will be invited to take a(n extra) free copy if
the posted one hasn't arrived by then.

So what's in issue 289?

The range of RISC OS machines keeps expanding (yes we know about the Iyonix
but someone still has them 'in stock' and that news was long predicted). We
would prefer to see another RISC OS native machine but Virtual for Macs is
arguably a far better option than being lumbered with Windows. Richard
Hallas starts an in-depth review and also shows how he produced the magazine
cover using ArtWorks on RO 4.39 on Virtual RPC-Adjust on his MacBook Pro.

One aspect of the latest (at least until next Saturday!) version of RISC OS
- RISC OS 6.10 - is described in our Take Six series. The new OS has taken
large steps with the version released at Wakefield and it will be
interesting to see what ROL might have in store for us at this autumn's
shows.

Alan Wilkinson looks at just one aspect of the free Image Processing tool
'Variations'. If you have a digital camera then this article is a
"must-read".

Meantime Chris Wraight samples various means of viewing images on your RISC
OS screen and Richard Hallas reviews the Olympus E-3 D-SLR camera.

In Root & Branch we find that whilst every numbering system has its
problems, John Carpenter has some answers to those troubling genealogists.

If sorting your fonts is a problem then our Fontastic review might solve
them for free.

There wasn't room for the Games Mathematical and Assembly Line articles but
they will be back in issues 290/291.

And finally...

Diary
Short Story
Qiz page
Your letters in the Electronic Quill
and and RIP for the Iyonix.

Thanks to Castle &c for producing the new Acorns and the Iyonix. Qercus will
continue to support *all* users of *all* RISC OS machines and just check
with our advertisers if you want a new (or as-new) Iyonix - or any other
RISC OS hardware of course!
