New PrintPDF and CashBook at Guildford

available in time for the South East Show this weekend. Visitors to the
show will be able to take copies of both applications away on disc, and
printed manuals for CashBook will also be available -- both for a small
fee. Proceeds after costs from sales of discs and manuals will be donated
to a local charity.
PrintPDF
--------
PrintPDF -- the original system for direct, universal PDF creation from
RISC OS applications via GhostScript -- is now at version 0.60. It allows
a 'PDF printer' to be added to !Printers; when this is printed to from
any application, a conversion dialogue box opens and a PDF of the original
document can be dragged straight to disc.
The main new feature in this version is the ability to join multiple
printouts together into a single PDF file. This might be used to combine
several drawfiles into a multi-page PDF, or to create documents containing
sections from different applications, to name just two examples. To make
this possible, several printouts can now be queued within PrintPDF,
arranged into order, and then converted in one go into a single file.
All of the familiar features from previous versions are still present.
PrintPDF allows access to many of the options of GhostScript, including
full control over the compression and resolution of images included in a
document. PDFs can be encrypted, with read and modify password protection
and the ability to set all of the access control options.
PrintPDF should be fully compatible with R-Comp's PDFMaker, allowing users
of the latter to access the new multi-document facility.
The discs available at the show will include everything required to
install a working setup of PrintPDF with Martin Wuerthner's port of
GhostScript.
CashBook
--------
CashBook is a home accounts application, capable of tracking money through
an unlimited number of bank, building society, credit card or other types
of account. Income and expenditure can be allocated to analysis headings,
which can be used for budgeting or reporting.
All transactions can be reconciled against statements, and real-time
statement views are available to make the process easier to manage.
Repeating transactions, such as standing orders, direct debits or salary
payments, are fully supported with a look-ahead facility to help avoid
nasty surprises.
An integral reporting system is included, which allows printouts of the
various summaries to be printed out as well providing the raw data for use
in a spreadsheet, graphing package or WP software.
CashBook comes with full documentation, supplied in plain text, StrongHelp
and PDF formats. For those visiting the show, printed copies of the
manual will also be available in the form of a 100 page, spiral-bound A5
book.
With the release of version 1.11, a few minor bugs and omissions have been
corrected.
