Dear all,

It's a pleasure to announce an update of !KeyMap, the front-end to Richard
Spencer's Desktop Keymap Module.

Apart from the inevitable cosmetic improvements, version 1.04 now also
includes two new keymaps that can drive the so called Windows 1251 fonts -
a special encoding that Windows created for accessing cyrillic characters
on their dominant system. The keymaps are composed by Jon Robinson, who
also converted the Windows Bukinist font, which is included in the archive
as well.

!KeyMap (together with DKM) is freeware and can be downloaded here:

For those who missed the first announcement (because I managed to redirect
the information to comp.sys.acorn.misc), here follows an explanation of
what !KeyMap and the Desktop Keymap Module (DKM) can do:

DKM basically is a programmable keyboard driver, that can assign both
Latin and Unicode characters to any key. !KeyMap offers a virtual keyboard
and comes with 17 predefined keyboard drivers already (from Armenian to
Turkish), while you can easily add your own.
An extensive manual (both in PDF and in StrongHelp format) is provided.

LIMITATION:
Currently, the only program that fully benefits from the unicode output of
!KeyMap is !Dict. Version 1.28 is released especially with this
functionality in mind.

(!Dict is a front-end to Stephan Bellon's Dict module, that lets you
explore hundreds of internet dictionaries. Unicode output has always been
possible in !Dict, but now you can also SEARCH for words in non-Latin
fonts. However, I haven't found non-Latin dicts yet, other than Cyrillic.
Fortunately, these Cyrillic dicts are really extensive and will please the
many thousands among you who wish to lookup Russian words on a daily base.)

!Dict 1.28 is freeware too, and can be downloaded here:

NOTES:
1. Unicode isn't originally applicable on systems other than RISC OS 5.xx,
unless they have the RISC OS 5 Font Manager and ROM fonts soft loaded.
Both !Dict and !KeyMap can still be used on non-unicode RISC OS versions,
but the unicode functionality will be disabled.

2. !KeyMap doesn't pretend to turn RISC OS 5.xx in a fully functional
unicode system. For the time being, !Dict is the only application that
benefits from the unicode possibilities of !KeyMap.

Kind regards,
