Which "COSMOS"? I've got (long retired) a "COSMOS CMX16/UNX"
which used v7 unix on an 8MHz Motorola 68000 CPU. It lived in an Intel
MultiBus chassis.
Enjoy,
DoN.

I thought COSNIX was written to run on the 3b1. I'm not sure what that
is you are referring to.
O.K. I've never experienced COSNIX, though I have a lot of
hours on the 3B1 with the AT&T supplied OS.
The "COSMOS CMS68/UNX" one which I mentioned was a rack-mount
system (7" high modules, IIRC -- one for the CPU, and one for the 8"
floppy drive and the 8" hard drive) which I had as my first unix box --
well before the 3B1 came within my reach. I got my machine at a hamfest
many years ago, and learned a lot in the process of getting it up and
running. 8 MHz 68000, 1 MB of ECC RAM, eventually two 84 MB Fujitsu 8"
SMD interface disk drives, 9-track tape (1600/800) BPI, and the unix was
a port of v7 unix by UniSoft. It was not the most impressive port,
given the relative speeds of it and the 3B1 both trying to crack the
password on yet another unix machine which I got with a zapped internal
fuse, but it worked fine once the fuse was replaced. It had an open
guest account, so I could see /etc/passwd. It was apparently being used
as a training machine.
Was that while working for an RBOC?
Nope -- it was after the "fire sale" when I could pick up a 7300
or 3b1 for a reasonable price.
Never worked for Ma Bell.
There were a lot of us here in this newsgroup (and the
unixpc.general which preceded it.) most of us were simply those who
liked to play with unix systems at home.

OT: Is there still any unixpc.* group going? If so, details welcomed,
as none of the few NNTP servers I use show any such thing.
Cheers, and TIA, -- tlvp

No -- those were shut down when the comp.sys.3b1 newsgroup (and
comp.sources.3b1 IIRC) were approved as big-8 newsgroups. There was no
longer any need to run a semi-private heirarchy.
