to
Regulate Computer Usage

MainSoft is pleased to announce the release of PC TimeWatch version
1.5.1.4

Purpose

PC TimeWatch manages access to the computer, to the Internet and to
programs on the computer. You can define a set of rules for every person
who uses the computer. The idea for the utility was inspired by requests
from parents wanting to manage childrens' time on the computer. PC
TimeWatch allows parents to define rules that should be discussed with
their children. Once the rules are accepted by everyone, PC TimeWatch
enforces them automatically, thus defusing any conflict between parents
and children.

Most similar programs have major security holes, and are easily disabled
by anyone with a moderate degree of knowledge about computers. Not PC
TimeWatch, which is much safer. And you don't need to be a computer geek
in order to use it.

PC TimeWatch was developed in collaboration with the team that created
the classic PC Magazine Utilities, and this is reflected in its
carefully chosen feature set and very simple, user-friendly interface.

Businesses also find it useful for preventing employees from using their
computers to fool around. (Note that PC TimeWatch is not a spy program
and does not log activity - it just controls access.) The program's
access management settings are very flexible so PC TimeWatch can be
adapted to many types of uses.

What makes PC TimeWatch different from its competitors?

- You don't have to manage profiles and separate passwords. PC Timewatch
uses the Windows accounts to manage access to programs, Windows sessions
and to the Internet connection.
- PC TimeWatch really locks programs. It cannot be defeated by renaming
or moving a program.
- It is a service working in the background and not an application that
can easily be disabled. PC TimeWatch is very safe and hard to tamper
with.
- Internet monitoring works for any type of connection, not only for
dialup connections like some of our competitors.
- Its user interface is much, much simpler.

New in this version:

- You can now assign a bonus to a prototype. This bonus will apply only
to the currently selected user. You can still assign a bonus to a given
program even if it is bound to a prototype. If you have decided to share
the time allocation, all programs bound to the prototype and sharing the
allocation will also share the bonus assigned to this prototype.
Otherwise, PCTW will use the bonus assigned to the program directly, if
any.

- Fixed bug occuring when the user name contains an underscore.

- Fixed security problem.

- The "Time Used" column in the statistics window now displays the time
consumed during the current period and the time consumed during the
previous period within parenthesis. As usual, if the user has not
consumed time during the current period (day or week), the values are
displayed in red and refer to the preceding periods.

- Fixed problem with Internet Explorer: the browser may now trigger
multiple processes (iexplore.exe) when running a single instance of the
IE user interface. This results in a wrong computation of the time
consumed by the user. Now, all instances of iexplore.exe are counting
for a single instance in PCTW.
