Licensing is playing an increasingly important role in the ever changing,
competitive interface of business, law and science. In this era of
fast-moving technological developments, profitable new businesses will be
created from emerging "transformation technologies," i.e. technologies
which will transform the way we live and work. We cannot afford to be
unaware.

The Central & Western Meeting will be held at the beautiful, newly
renovated Westin Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage (Palm
Springs). The theme of the meeting will be "Creating New Businesses from
Emerging Technology" with a view of business opportunities in Advanced
Materials, Electronics and Optics, Intelligent Systems and Software, and
Life Sciences in the year 2000.

PROGRAM AND FACILITIES
On Friday, February 26, we will have four outstanding speakers each
reviewing the 6, we will have four outstanding speakers each reviewing the
key technology frontiers from which breakthroughs are now occurring and
will form the bases of significant new business opportuni ties in the next
five to eight years. Following the plenary session, four workshops will
further focus on each area and collect observations and perspectives from
the workshop audience in an active interaction.ight the collective
out comes of the preceding day's workshops. The program will close with
two pre sentations and workshops focusing on "Who will be the investors in
such emerging businesses" and the "Strategies required for successful
commercializa tion" in these new areas.

Although Friday and Saturday afternoons will be available for sports and
other networking opportunities, there will be a special "add-in" session on
Friday afternoon on two current software licensing uses: the impact of
networks and superstores. This add-in session will consist of a special
lunch, and three plenary sessions lasting until 3:30 p.m.

In your free time, towering mountain vistas, lush green golf course
fairways and the sparkling clear desert air await you at the spectacular
360 acres of lush grounds amidst the prestigious Mission Hills Country
Club, home of the Nabisco Dinah Shore LPGA Classic, in the exclusive
community of Rancho Mirage, California. The Westin's uniquely designed
luxury resort features oversize guest rooms and suites. The two-story
guest room pavilions surrounded by the resort's golf courses, provide a
relaxed country club atmosphere. A 6,500 square foot lagoon style swimming
pool with a 60 ft. waterslide, two satellite pools and three poolside snack
bars offer a choice of enjoying the spectacular desert weather in a variety
of settings from active to secluded. Two Championship golf courses, a
fully staffed Tennis & Health Club and the seven court tennis club round
out the resort's recreational amenities.

THE PETE DYE RESORT COURSE - 18-hole championship course designed by
legendary golf architect Pete Dye, featuring tees that range from sporty to
strong with long lakes, rolling fairways and deep pot bunkers. Southern
California's only site of the internationally recognized Golf Digest
School, is characterized by Dye's unique trademarks -- long lakes, rolling
fairways, deep pot bunkers and boundaries formed by railroad ties. Par 72,
6, 743 yards, Course rating: 73.8.

GARY PLAYER RESORT COURSE - 18 HOLE, PAR 72, Gary Player, The
spectacular par-72 Gary Player Signature Course, which opened for play in
October 1991, was designed to enhance the desert's natural beauty. Tees
and greens have been incorporated into the existing sand dunes and ravines;
bridges, natural rock placements, lakes and waterfalls create a majestic
mosaic. This Signature Course is challenging yet forgiving for both the
novice and resort player. Rated by GOLF Magazine as one of the top 10
resort courses in the U.S. for 1992.

Creating New Businesses from Emerging Technology

What are the technology "transformations" occurring today that will lead to
significant new business opportunities in the next five to eight years?
Transformations are fundamental shifts in technology that will either
obsolete the old way of doing things (e.g., transistors over vacuum tubes)
or create the possibility of doing commercially what was not previously
possible (gene therapy).
