probably a silly/easy question: 3x3 design

Hi - I'm a law student with a minimal background in stats, and thus
far I've managed to accomplish all I need to in SPSS, but now I'm
stumped.

I have a 3x3 design (all between-subjects). I also collected data on
gender and law student/lawyer status, and I'd like to see if these
variables had systematic effects as well.

How should I run the appropriate analyses? I've run 2x2 and 2x3
ANOVAs, but I can't figure out how to get the appropriate output for
my 3x3 design. Is it that I'm asking to much for them to compare all
the means? I don't have a hypothesis about only one particular cell
that I want to test.

If your dependent variable is continuous, it sounds as if you have a 4
way ANOVA. Gender * Status * X1 * X2
It will produce main effects for each Independent Variable (IV).
It will produce all two way and three way interactions and the 4 way
interaction.

You might check with someone in a department that does a lot of
experimental work such as psychology.

Is what you really want to do is some form of post-hoc comparison?
I.e. for lawyers is Level 1 of between subjects IV1 different from
levels 2 and 3?
