My laptop has some oddball Intel graphics card, which made prior versions
of Scilab generate an error message about not allowing interactive
graphics, then work fine.

Version 5.3.3, however doesn't generate an error message -- it just locks
up. I get no helpful messages when I run it on a command line, but
running "kill xxxx" does make Scilab terminate.

I recall that there was some command that I could run to force safe
graphics behavior in the earlier versions. I would like to try it, to
see if it works for the current version.

Anyone remember what it is?

What computer/processor are you using? I am asking because I am new to
scilab but I am having the same problem. I am running Xubuntu on an old
ThinkPad t42 Pentium M and it locks on plot2d()...
