Scilab 2.3: NEW RELEASE!

We are pleased to announce release 2.3 of Scilab.

This release runs on Unix X Window systems and has been tested on:
- Dec Alpha (OSF1 3.0)
- Sun Sparc stations (Sun OS 4.1.3)
- Sun Sparc stations (Sun Solaris 5.3, 5.5)
- HP9000 (HP-UX 10.20)
- SGI Mips Irix 5.3
- IBM-RS6000 (AIX 3.2.5)
- PC (Linux, various distributions).

This release also includes the Windows 95 Beta release. The source of
Scilab 2.3 is ready to be compiled on Windows 95 with GNU Win 32 or
Visual C++. The corresponding binary version will be available in a
few days.

DISTRIBUTION

As usual Scilab can be found at
"ftp.inria.fr:/INRIA/Projects/Meta2/Scilab" (internet# 192.93.2.54).
In this directory you will find the tar-compressed files corresponding
to the source version and binary versions for various systems.

SUMMARY OF CHANGES

Too many changes to list. Here are just a few highlights.

GRAPHICS
--------
- It is now possible to have as many as colors as you want for each graphics
window. Moreover each graphics window has its own graphics context.

- Many other changes, such as:
. to set colors for each 3D facets
. to interactively zoom a part of a drawn 2D plot and to change 3D plot
point of view

NEW TOOLBOXES
-------------
- Beta test interprocess connection toolbox has been added see "help
communications"

- Sound processing

SCICOS
------
This is a new version of Scicos with many new funtionalities and
improvements.

- Vector valued link may be defined between blocks
- Formal expression of block parameters and context
- Customisable block shapes

Due to many changes old Scicos diagrams may not work.

METANET
-------
- Many new functions
- User's guide available

MISC
----
- Help manager modified to simplify addition of users toolboxes helps

- Sort had been extended to character strings

- Matrix functions such as max, min, sum, prod ... had been extended
to column/row wise interpretation

- cumsum / cumprod added

- the $ character can be used to select the last entry of matrices
